Acronyms 101

The American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM) is offering a new standard by requiring a 1,000-hour fellowship in Integrative Medicine for MD and DO physicians who choose to sit for their exam. The ABOIM is distinct from American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM), and is overseen by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS).  As a point of clarification for all the acronyms and frequently misunderstood facets of the conversation, the ABPS is not the same entity as the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The best way to learn more about the ABOIM and the requirements to sit for their exam is by visiting their website directly.
