Rest, Renewal, and Clarity with Cacao

January 6-8, 2023

This workshop is designed for health professionals who are seeking rest & renewal, clarity & joy, alongside laughter and learning in a community of like-hearted health professionals. You will learn skills to improve your emotional well-being and resilience. In addition, you will learn the fundamentals of the pharmacology and clinical use of ketamine for emotional health.

Current research highlights an epidemic of stress and burnout in healthcare providers.  This workshop is designed to be a sanctuary and learning opportunity for anyone who has been providing care during the COVID pandemic.  We will review research and explore the impact of COVID-19 on ourselves as healers, learn self-care practices to build resilience to nurture the healer within, and participate in a cacao ceremony within a physician-supervised setting.   *note the low-dose optional Ketamine experience has been removed from the retreat.  Only didactic information will be provided.  If you have any questions, please email cmarinaro@aihm.org for details.

The agenda will include didactic, experiential, small group, and dyad formats to optimize both cognitive and embodied learning, as well as create opportunities to share and more deeply connect with each other.

This workshop will provide you with a framework for self-healing and living with greater resilience through integrating science with contemplative psychology, mindfulness, and somatic experience practices. The goal of this curriculum is to empower you with skills and practices that will help you more effectively navigate stress, experience greater meaning and joy in your work, be more present in caring for your patients, and more present and kind with yourself and with loved ones.  You can take these practices back to your health care team to improve the environment you work in.

Please be prepared to engage in a variety of practices throughout this workshop. No prior yoga or meditation experience is required.

After attending this retreat, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the types of challenges that put healthcare practitioners at risk for psychological distress.
  • Recognize factors that put healthcare practitioners at risk for burnout.
  • Identify key skills and practices that promote resilience.
  • Analyze concepts of the wounded healer and compassion fatigue.
  • Identify research and evidence-based strategies that increase well-being.
  • Utilize evidence-based mindfulness strategies.
  • Utilize key aspects of self-compassion practices.
  • Identify the ways stress and trauma affect physical and emotional well-being.
  • Apply body-based and movement practices to alleviate stress..
  • Describe the pharmacology of ketamine and its use in ketamine assisted psychotherapy and chronic pain treatment.
  • Identify ketamine and other psychedelics, their indications,  and their place in future psychiatric treatment protocols.

No. CME/CE credit is not available for this retreat.
What health + safety guidelines will be in place at the retreat?
At AIHM we believe in treating the whole person: body, mind, emotions, and spirit. We honor the many Global Healing Traditions and believe that creating health requires a multi-disciplinary approach. We also believe in evidence-based health and medicine and have a vested interest in public health for all. While we encourage our community to continue the natural healing methods that support a healthy immune system and terrain, we also recognize the COVID-19 vaccines as one opportunity to reduce mortality, suffering and the sometimes, long-term illness caused by COVID-19.

AIHM’s 2022 Health + Safety Policies are:

  • Effective March 1, 2022, California has lifted its mask mandate for indoor spaces. As such, AIHM will not be requiring participants to wear a mask at the retreat.
  • AIHM strongly encourages, but will not require, unvaccinated attendees to wear a face mask in all indoor public settings.
  • AIHM will not require retreat attendees to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
  • AIHM strongly encourages all retreat attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to attending the in-person event.

Since this situation remains fluid, we will be adapting our plans as needed.  Our protocols will reflect the most current advice and best practices and evolve based on state and federal guidance.

Details on the RB Inn’s safety and wellbeing protocols can be found at https://www.ranchobernardoinn.com/stay/wellbeing-at-the-inn
